Founded by the Italian freediving champion -- Ludovico Mares, the company has been at the forefront of diving technology since 1973. Today, Mares designs and produces over 1,000 watersports products sold in more than 80 countries. Some of Mares’ proudest innovations occurred in 1973, where Mares was the first to introduce fins in two materials: a technopolymer blade and an overmolded foot pocket in thermoplastic rubber. And in 1979, Mares was the first in the world to launch a new "optical system" for dive masks, vastly improving convenience for those with impaired eyesight.
